How does the Tone Rewriter actually change my text?
It runs your text through a rule-based engine that applies a tone-specific dictionary plus a few structural transformations. For example, choosing Professional expands contractions, swaps casual words like "stuff" for "items", removes exclamation marks, and adds a polite greeting and sign-off. Choosing Friendly does the opposite: contractions come back, an opening "Hi!" is added, and a single emoji is appended. There is no AI involved, so the same input always produces the same output.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. The entire rewriter runs in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded, logged, or shared. You can paste sensitive text such as customer emails or internal notes and the page will rewrite them without making any network request. Closing the tab discards everything immediately, and there is no backend storage of the input or output anywhere.
When should I use each tone?
Professional is for client emails, formal letters, and any communication where you need to sound serious or polished. Casual is for chat messages, internal Slack notes, or social posts. Friendly softens cold messages so they sound warm. Urgent is for incident reports or escalations where speed matters. Apologetic is for service recovery or any time you need to say sorry without sounding defensive.
How accurate are the rewrites?
Rule-based rewriters are predictable and fast but never perfect. Words have multiple meanings and the engine cannot always tell which one you mean. Always read the output before sending. Treat the rewriter as a fast first draft that gets you 80 percent of the way; tweak the result for context, names, and tone-of-voice nuance that no dictionary can capture.
Why does the same word get changed in some sentences but not others?
The rewriter only changes whole words that match its dictionary entries. If a word is part of a longer phrase or includes punctuation that breaks the boundary, it may be skipped. Capitalization at the start of a sentence is preserved, so "Don't" becomes "Do not" but lowercase "don't" mid-sentence becomes "do not". This is intentional to keep sentence flow correct.
Can I see what changed in my text?
Yes. Below the rewritten text, the tool lists up to twelve specific changes such as contractions expanded, words swapped, greeting added, or emojis removed. This makes it easy to learn the patterns of each tone and to verify the rewrite did what you wanted. If a change looks wrong, edit the output directly before copying it.
