How do I convert a PNG to a JPG?
Drop your PNG onto the tool and pick a JPG quality between 1 and 100, where 90 is a good default. Click convert and the resulting JPG is ready to download. If the PNG has transparency, the tool fills the background with white by default, since JPG cannot store transparent pixels. You can change that fill colour to black or any other shade so the converted file blends into the background where it will eventually be displayed.
Will I lose quality converting from PNG to JPG?
Yes, JPG uses lossy compression, so some quality is always lost. For photographs the difference is hard to see at quality 85 or higher and the file is much smaller. For graphics with sharp edges, text or solid colour blocks, the JPG can show visible artefacts and the file may not be much smaller. PNG is the better format for those types of images, so only convert when smaller files matter more than crispness.
How small does the file get after converting to JPG?
For a typical photo the JPG is usually 5 to 15 times smaller than the original PNG, depending on the quality setting. Graphics and screenshots see less of a reduction because PNG already compresses solid colour areas very efficiently. The tool shows the before and after sizes in the preview so you can decide whether the conversion is worth it. If the JPG is barely smaller, sticking with PNG is the right call.
What happens to the transparent areas in my PNG?
JPG does not support transparency, so any transparent pixels are replaced with a solid background colour during conversion. The tool defaults to white, which suits most cases, and offers a colour picker if you need a different shade. Choose a colour that matches where the JPG will be displayed, like the page background, so the edges blend in. If transparency is important, keep using PNG or convert to WebP instead, which supports both transparency and smaller files.
Can I convert several PNGs to JPG at once?
Yes. Drop a folder of PNG files onto the tool and the same quality and background settings apply to all of them. You can download every JPG individually or grab the lot as a ZIP archive. This is the fastest way to prepare a photo gallery for a website where load time matters. The original PNGs on your computer are not changed, so you always have the lossless source available if you need higher quality later.
Are my PNG files uploaded during the conversion?
No. The conversion happens in your browser using canvas and the JPG encoder built into modern browsers. Files never leave your device, which is important when converting screenshots of internal tools, draft designs or photos that contain personal information. There is no rate limit because there is no server, so you can convert hundreds of files in a row as long as your browser has enough memory to handle them.
