How does the Smart Social Cropper decide what to keep in each crop?
The tool runs a saliency analysis on your image: it downsamples it, measures local contrast and edge density, and builds a heat map of the busiest, most visually important regions. For every social ratio it then searches for the crop window that contains the highest total saliency, with a small bias toward the center for natural framing. The result is that subjects, faces, and busy detail tend to stay inside each output instead of being chopped off the edge.
Are my images uploaded to a server when I crop them?
No. Everything runs in your browser using the HTML Canvas API. The original image is read into memory, the crops are computed locally, and the JPGs are produced and offered as downloads - at no point is the image sent to RecurPost or any third party. You can confirm this by opening your browser developer tools and watching the network tab while you use the tool: there are no upload requests.
Which output sizes does it generate?
You get nine sizes that cover almost every common social placement: Twitter/X 1200×675, Instagram square 1080×1080, Instagram portrait 1080×1350, Instagram landscape 1080×566, Story 1080×1920, LinkedIn 1200×627, Facebook 1200×630, Pinterest 1000×1500, and YouTube thumbnail 1280×720. Each is exported as a JPG at 92 percent quality and named with the dimensions so you can identify them at a glance.
What file formats are supported as input?
You can drop in PNG, JPG/JPEG, or WebP files. Output is always JPG because that produces small, social-friendly files with the broadest compatibility. There is no hard size limit but very large files (above 20 MB or 8000 px on a side) may take a few seconds to analyse. If your image has transparency, the JPG output will use a white background where the transparent pixels were.
Can I download all the crops at once?
Yes. After the crops are generated, click "Download all (ZIP)" to package every output into a single ZIP file. The ZIP is built in your browser using JSZip - no server is involved. You can also download each crop individually from its preview card if you only need one or two ratios.
When does the Smart Cropper struggle?
Saliency analysis works best when subjects are visually distinct from the background. With completely flat or repetitive images (a clear sky, a textured wall) every region scores similarly, so the tool falls back to a near-centered crop. It also cannot identify which face in a group photo is "the" subject - it simply tries to keep busy regions in frame. For tightly composed portrait crops you may want to manually fine-tune the result in a dedicated editor.
