How do I convert metres to feet?
Multiply metres by 3.28084 to get feet. For example, 5 metres equals about 16.4 feet. The exact conversion uses 1 foot = 0.3048 metres, which has been the international standard since 1959. The converter applies this factor automatically and supports both directions, so you can also convert feet to metres by dividing by 3.28084 or multiplying by 0.3048.
What is the difference between a US mile and a nautical mile?
A statute (US/UK) mile is 1,609.344 metres and is used on land. A nautical mile is 1,852 metres and is used in aviation and shipping because it equals one minute of arc along a meridian. That makes nautical miles more convenient for navigation. The converter supports both, so you can translate sailing or flight distances into kilometres or land miles easily.
Which countries use imperial length units?
The United States is the main country that uses inches, feet, yards, and miles in everyday life. The United Kingdom uses miles for road signs and feet/inches for personal height but otherwise uses metric. Liberia and Myanmar also retain some imperial usage. Almost every other country uses metric (millimetres, centimetres, metres, kilometres) for distance and engineering.
How precise is the conversion?
The converter uses the official SI definitions and rounds the displayed result to a sensible number of decimal places, typically six. Internally it works with full double precision so chained conversions stay accurate. For engineering tolerances or surveying, double-check the rounding mode and decimal places, since stacking multiple conversions can introduce small errors at the micrometre scale.
How do I convert inches to centimetres?
Multiply inches by 2.54 to get centimetres. So a 15 inch laptop screen has a diagonal of 38.1 cm, and a 6 foot tall person is 182.88 cm. The factor 2.54 is exact by definition, set internationally in 1959. This is one of the most common conversions for screens, paper sizes, and clothing measurements between US and metric systems.
What units does the length converter support?
It supports millimetres, centimetres, metres, kilometres, inches, feet, yards, miles, nautical miles, and often smaller units like micrometres and nanometres plus astronomical ones like light years and parsecs. Pick the source unit, enter the value, and the converter shows results in every other unit at once for quick cross-comparison.
