How do I convert kilograms to pounds?
Multiply kilograms by 2.20462 to get pounds. So 70 kg equals about 154.3 lb. The exact factor is 1 kg = 2.2046226218... lb. Going the other way, divide pounds by 2.20462 or multiply by 0.453592. This is the most common weight conversion between metric (used worldwide) and imperial (used in the US) systems.
What is the difference between mass and weight?
Mass is the amount of matter in an object and is measured in kilograms or pounds-mass. Weight is the force gravity exerts on that mass and is technically measured in newtons. In everyday usage, kilograms and pounds are treated as weight, even though they are really mass units. The converter follows everyday usage, which is fine for cooking, shipping, and personal weight.
How are stones used in the UK?
In the UK and Ireland, body weight is often expressed in stones and pounds. One stone equals 14 pounds or about 6.35 kg. So a person weighing 11 stone 4 pounds weighs 158 lb or 71.7 kg. The converter handles stones natively, which is helpful when reading British health information or ordering products from the UK.
What is a metric ton versus a US ton?
A metric ton (tonne) is exactly 1,000 kg, used worldwide. A US short ton is 2,000 lb, which equals 907.185 kg. A UK long ton is 2,240 lb or 1,016.05 kg. The three values differ by about 10 percent, which matters in shipping and freight. Always confirm which ton is meant when reading cargo or vehicle specifications.
How do I convert grams to ounces?
Divide grams by 28.3495 to get ounces, or multiply ounces by 28.3495 to get grams. So 100 g equals about 3.527 oz, which is why food labels often round to 3.5 oz. Note that fluid ounces are a volume unit and are not the same as ounces of weight, though they are loosely equal for water at room temperature.
What units does the converter cover?
Milligrams, grams, kilograms, metric tons, ounces, pounds, stones, US tons, UK tons, carats (for gemstones), and grains (for ammunition or pharmacy) are all supported. Enter a value in any unit and see the equivalents in all the others, which is useful for science, fitness, shipping, cooking, and international trade.
