How does the age calculator work?
You enter your date of birth and (optionally) a target date. The calculator subtracts the birth date from the target date and breaks the result into years, months, and days. It accounts for the actual length of each month and leap years, so a person born on February 29 will get a sensible age on non-leap years rather than rolling forward incorrectly.
Why does the age sometimes show a different number of days than I expected?
Months have different lengths (28 to 31 days), so the day count depends on which months your age spans. The calculator first counts complete years, then complete months in the partial year, then leftover days in the partial month. This is the standard human way of stating age and matches how passports and legal documents calculate it.
Can I calculate age between two past dates?
Yes. Both the birth date and the comparison date are editable. This is useful for figuring out how old someone was at a wedding, when a historical event happened, or on any specific date in the past or future. As long as both dates are valid, the calculator will return the exact gap in years, months, and days.
Does it handle leap years correctly?
Yes. The calculator uses real calendar arithmetic, so February 29 birthdays are handled properly. On non-leap years it treats the birthday as falling on March 1 for the purpose of the day-count rollover, which matches most legal conventions. Leap days that fall inside a calculated span are also counted, so the day total is always accurate.
What is the difference between chronological age and biological age?
This tool calculates chronological age, which is simply the time elapsed since you were born. Biological age is a medical estimate of how old your body seems based on health markers like blood pressure, cholesterol, and cellular markers. The two can differ significantly, but only chronological age is a fixed mathematical fact.
How accurate is the result?
It is exact down to the day. The calculator does not estimate hours or minutes because most people do not know their exact birth time, and the input is only a date. If you need age in total days or total weeks, the breakdown gives you the years and months from which you can derive any unit you need.
