What is the difference between GST inclusive and GST exclusive?
GST exclusive means the price you see does not include tax, and GST is added on top. GST inclusive means the price already contains the tax, and you need to extract it. The calculator supports both: enter the amount and pick the mode. Inclusive uses amount minus amount divided by (1 plus rate), while exclusive multiplies the amount by the rate.
What GST rates does the calculator support?
You can enter any rate manually, so it works for any country. India uses 5, 12, 18, and 28 percent slabs. Australia and New Zealand use a flat 10 and 15 percent. Singapore uses 9 percent. Canada uses 5 percent GST plus provincial sales tax. Just enter your local rate and the math works the same way.
How do I extract GST from an inclusive price?
Switch to inclusive mode and enter the total. The formula is GST equals total times rate divided by (100 plus rate). For example, on a 118 rupee bill at 18 percent GST, the GST portion is 118 times 18 divided by 118, which equals 18 rupees, leaving 100 rupees as the base price. The calculator handles this automatically.
Does the calculator split CGST and SGST for India?
For intra-state transactions in India, GST is split equally between CGST (Central) and SGST (State). If your rate is 18 percent, that becomes 9 percent CGST and 9 percent SGST. The calculator shows the total GST, and you can simply halve it for the CGST or SGST component on a domestic invoice.
Can I use this for invoices and quotes?
Yes, but only as a quick reference. For official invoicing you should use accounting software that handles rounding rules, multiple line items, and the correct tax breakdown for your jurisdiction. The calculator is best for one-off checks, freelance estimates, and verifying that an invoice you received does the math correctly.
Why does my answer differ by one cent from a receipt?
Rounding. Receipts often round each line item before adding GST, while the calculator computes the exact decimal and rounds at the end. Differences of one or two cents are normal and not an error. If you need to match a receipt to the cent, calculate each line item separately rather than the total.
