What do the four difficulty levels mean?
Easy puzzles have around 36 to 40 given numbers and need only basic single-candidate scanning. Medium drops to 30 to 34 givens and requires hidden pairs. Hard puzzles have around 26 to 30 givens and need techniques like X-wings or pointing pairs. Expert keeps roughly 22 to 26 givens and can require chain logic. Every puzzle the tool generates has exactly one solution, regardless of difficulty.
How do I print a Sudoku for offline solving?
Click the print button and the tool opens a clean print layout with just the grid, the difficulty label, and a small puzzle ID. Use your browser's print preview to confirm the size, and pick "fit to page" if the grid looks cramped. You can print several puzzles to one sheet by generating multiple grids first, which is useful for teachers, travel packs, or care-home activity sessions.
Can I see the solution if I get stuck?
Yes. The reveal solution button shows the full completed grid for the current puzzle, and some builds let you reveal a single cell or row instead so you only get a small nudge. The solution is generated together with the puzzle, so it is always consistent with the givens and confirms there is exactly one valid answer.
Are the puzzles unique each time?
Each click of generate produces a fresh puzzle drawn from a very large space of possibilities, so the chance of seeing the same grid twice is effectively zero. The tool also rotates and reflects the underlying solution before removing cells, which means even structurally similar puzzles look different on the page. You can generate as many as you like at no cost.
Does it work on phones and tablets?
The grid is responsive and works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet, or phone. On smaller screens the on-screen number pad pops up when you tap a cell so you do not need a keyboard. For the best printing experience, generate the puzzle on a desktop or laptop where the print dialog has more layout options.
What is a good strategy for harder puzzles?
Start by scanning rows, columns, and 3x3 boxes for cells that can only hold one value, then pencil in candidates for the rest. Look for naked and hidden pairs to eliminate possibilities, and only move to advanced techniques like X-wings once the easy logic runs out. Avoid guessing; if you find yourself doing trial and error, you have probably missed a simpler deduction earlier.
