How is my typing speed calculated?
Typing speed is reported in words per minute (WPM), where one word equals five characters including spaces. The tool counts every correctly typed character during the timed run, divides by five, and scales to a one-minute rate. Accuracy is shown alongside as the percentage of keystrokes that matched the target text, so a fast but sloppy run will land lower than a steady, clean one.
Should I pick the 15, 30, or 60 second test?
Use 15 seconds for a quick warmup or to compare bursts, 30 seconds for everyday practice, and 60 seconds when you want a stable score that smooths out lucky or unlucky words. Shorter tests reward fast starters and penalise a single typo heavily; the 60-second run is the most reliable indicator of your real sustained typing pace.
How can I improve my WPM and accuracy?
Slow down first and aim for 98 percent accuracy before pushing for speed, because correcting mistakes costs more time than typing carefully. Keep your fingers on the home row, look at the screen instead of the keyboard, and practise daily in short sessions of five to ten minutes. Most people see a 10 to 20 WPM jump within a few weeks of consistent practice.
Does the test work on phones and tablets?
The test runs in any modern browser including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge on desktop, and it loads on mobile too. That said, on-screen touch keyboards are not really comparable to physical typing and your WPM will be much lower. For a meaningful score, take the test on a laptop or desktop with a real keyboard.
Can I share or save my result?
Yes. After each run the tool shows your WPM, accuracy, and the number of correct and incorrect characters, and you can copy the result text or take a screenshot to share. Some versions let you print a small certificate of your score, which teachers find handy for classroom typing challenges or weekly progress check-ins.
Why does my score change so much between runs?
Short tests are sensitive to the specific words shown, your warmup state, and one-off typos. A tricky word with double letters or awkward finger jumps can drop your WPM by ten or more in a 15-second run. Take three or four tests in a row and use the average; that smooths out variance and gives you a number you can actually compare over time.
