How do I play Hangman?
A secret word is shown as blanks, one for each letter. Pick a letter from the on-screen keyboard. If the letter is in the word it is revealed in every position it appears. If it is not, a new body part is added to the gallows. Reveal the whole word before the figure is fully drawn to win the round.
How many wrong guesses do I get?
The classic six wrong guesses are allowed, corresponding to head, body, two arms and two legs. After six misses the game ends and the answer is revealed. Some difficulty modes shorten the limit or use longer words, but the default mode keeps the friendly six-mistake rule, so beginners and kids can ease into the game without too much pressure.
What are good first letters to guess?
Always start with the most common English letters: E, A, T, O, I and N. After those, try R, S, H and L. Once you have a few letters in place, guess letters that fit the visible pattern rather than going alphabetically. Avoid wasting attempts on rare letters like Q or Z unless the structure of the word strongly hints at them.
Can I choose word categories?
Yes. The word list has categories such as animals, countries, food, movies and general, and you can pick one before starting a round. Picking a category narrows the dictionary, which makes longer words solvable from a partial pattern. The default mode pulls from all categories together for maximum variety, which is best for casual play.
Are wins and losses saved?
A simple session counter tracks how many words you have solved and how many times the man has been hanged. Refreshing the page resets the counts, and a per-category breakdown is shown at the end of each session if you keep changing modes. There is no online leaderboard, just personal pride and the occasional satisfying streak.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes, the on-screen keyboard is the primary input method, so phones and tablets work just as well as a desktop. Each letter button greys out once tapped, so you cannot accidentally guess the same letter twice. The gallows drawing scales down for narrow screens, and the blanks for the secret word wrap if the word is long.
