How does Reversi work?
Reversi, also known as Othello, is played on an 8x8 board with two-coloured discs. You take turns placing a disc of your colour on an empty square. The placement must trap one or more of your opponent's discs in a straight line between two of your colours. Every trapped disc flips to your colour. The player with the most discs at the end wins.
What are the legal moves?
You may place a disc only on a square that flips at least one opponent disc. If no legal move exists, your turn is skipped. The starting position has two black and two white discs in the centre. Black moves first. Legal moves are highlighted on the board so you never accidentally pick an illegal square.
Does the AI play strongly?
Yes. On easy the AI plays sensibly but misses positional traps. On medium it uses basic positional weights, prioritising corners and avoiding edges adjacent to corners. On hard it uses minimax with positional and mobility evaluation, which makes it a tough challenge. Beat hard regularly and you have a real grasp of Othello strategy beyond just flipping the most discs each turn.
Why are corners so important?
Corners can never be flipped, because they have no neighbours on two sides, so any disc you place there is permanent. Corners also anchor entire diagonals and edges. Avoid playing on the squares diagonally next to a corner unless you have a very specific reason, because doing so often gives your opponent the corner. This is the central rule of strong Reversi play.
Is local two player mode available?
Yes. Toggle two player local mode and pass the device between turns. The board automatically rotates the legal-move highlight to the active player's colour. This is great for teaching the game to a friend or family member, because the legal-move highlights speed up learning the unusual capture rule that beginners often struggle with at first.
Are wins tracked?
A session counter shows your wins, losses and draws against the AI for the current page session. Refreshing the page clears the counters. There is no online leaderboard, so all the competition stays local. The chosen difficulty stays selected between rounds, so a quick rematch on the same difficulty starts immediately when you click New Game on the results screen.
