How does the countdown timer handle long durations?
You can count down hours, minutes, and seconds. The timer computes a target timestamp when you start it and renders the difference on every frame. This means even a multi-hour countdown stays exact rather than drifting from accumulated rounding. Very long countdowns running into days are better handled by the calendar reminder in your operating system.
Will the alarm sound if the tab is in the background?
Most browsers allow audio playback from background tabs as long as the user has interacted with the page first, so starting the timer with a click is enough. If your operating system has the tab fully suspended for power saving, the alarm may be delayed by a second or two. Keep the tab visible for time-critical alerts.
Can I run multiple countdowns at once?
You can open the timer in multiple browser tabs and run an independent countdown in each. They will not interfere with each other. For organized multi-step timing, a dedicated kitchen timer app or your phone is usually easier than juggling tabs.
What happens if I close the tab before the timer finishes?
The countdown is reset because state lives only in the page. There is no background service that keeps tracking after you leave. For events you absolutely cannot miss, set a calendar reminder or a phone alarm in addition to the timer.
Does daylight saving time affect a countdown that crosses the transition?
No. The countdown measures elapsed real time, not wall-clock time, so the spring-forward and fall-back transitions do not add or remove an hour from the count. A six-hour countdown started before midnight on the spring-forward Sunday will still finish six real hours later, even though the clock displayed at the end will be different from what you might expect.
Is the timer accurate enough for cooking and exercise?
Yes. For any task measured in seconds or longer, the timer is well within the accuracy you need. Cooking, brewing tea, plank holds, and Tabata intervals are all suitable use cases. Sub-second precision is unnecessary for these tasks, so a small visual lag at the start or end of a frame is unnoticeable.
