How does the LinkedIn About generator work?
You fill in a guided form with your role, years of experience, top skills, a signature achievement, two values you bring, your industry niche, and what you are open to. The tool plugs your inputs into one of three style templates - storytelling, bullet-point, or professional - and produces a polished About section you can paste straight into LinkedIn. You can switch styles instantly and regenerate to see different phrasing.
Which style should I pick: storytelling, bullet-point, or professional?
Storytelling reads like a personal narrative with three or four flowing paragraphs - best when you want to feel approachable and memorable. Bullet-point opens with a hook and lists five concrete items - best for skim-readers and recruiters scanning fast. Professional is a tight two-paragraph version with a formal tone - best for executive roles or anyone in finance, law, or consulting where formality matters. Try all three; they each pull from your same inputs.
Does the tool send my answers to a server?
No. The entire generator runs in your browser. Your role, achievement, salary clues, contact details - none of it is uploaded, logged, or saved anywhere. Once you close the tab the inputs disappear. You can use it on a personal device for sensitive career planning without worrying about leaks. The output text is yours to copy, edit, and paste as you wish.
Why does my About sometimes go over the 2,600 character limit?
LinkedIn caps the About section at 2,600 characters, and very long achievement sentences or open-to text can push the storytelling style past that. The output panel shows a live character count and warns when you are over. The fix is to trim the longest input field - usually the "what you are open to" textarea - or switch to the professional style, which is naturally tighter at around 600 to 900 characters.
What does the Regenerate button actually change?
It re-rolls the verb choices, transition phrases, and closing lines from synonym pools so the second draft uses different wording while saying the same things. So "scaled revenue" might become "grew revenue", "led teams" might become "spearheaded teams". The structure and your inputs do not change - only the connective tissue. Click Regenerate a few times if a phrase feels off; the output will land on something that fits your voice.
Should I edit the output, or paste it as-is?
Always edit before posting. Templates produce text that is grammatical and on-message, but only you know your real voice and the small specifics that make a profile feel human. Use the output as scaffolding: keep the structure that works, swap a verb that does not sound like you, add one personal sentence, and trim anything that feels generic. Treat the tool as a first draft, not a final draft.
