Where do the quotes come from?
The tool ships with a curated bundled set of well-known quotes from authors, philosophers, scientists, and public figures. They are selected from public-domain works, attributed historical sources, and widely circulated quotations. Each quote is paired with the speaker's name, and where the wording is contested, we use the most commonly cited version.
Are the attributions verified?
We make a best effort to attribute quotes to the correct person, but many famous quotes circulate with the wrong author attached (the so-called "Mark Twain effect," where Twain gets credit for almost any witty line). Treat attributions as a starting point, not absolute truth, and verify in a primary source if you plan to publish or print the quote.
Can I filter by topic or author?
Yes. The tool tags quotes by themes such as motivation, leadership, humour, science, and love, and you can also filter by author name. Combining filters lets you ask for "Einstein on imagination" or "humorous quotes about work." If a filter combination has no matches the tool tells you so rather than returning an unrelated quote.
Is there a way to avoid getting the same quote twice?
Turn on "no repeats" and the tool tracks which quotes you have already seen during the current session, picking only from the unseen ones. Once you have seen them all the tool resets. Without this option each click is independent, so you can occasionally see the same quote twice, especially after applying a narrow filter that shrinks the pool.
Can I use these quotes commercially?
Quotes themselves are usually short enough to fall under fair use, but always check the source. Lines from copyrighted works (song lyrics, recent books, films) may not be safe to print on merchandise without permission. Public-domain authors (Shakespeare, Aurelius, anyone whose copyright has expired) are generally fine. When in doubt, consult a copyright lawyer.
Why do some quotes appear with slight wording differences elsewhere?
Famous quotes often get paraphrased over time, translated between languages, or trimmed for social media. We try to use the version closest to the original source, but you may see "imagination is more important than knowledge" rendered with extra words elsewhere. If exact wording matters (for a tattoo, gravestone, or academic citation), trace the quote to its earliest documented appearance.
